Android creator unveils a new ceramic smartphone as well as a home security device
Andy Rubin, the creator Android, is back again with something new to surprise the people. Android is currently being used by millions of people around the globe be it in their smartphones or any other smart devices that runs on Android. He has recently launched two gadgets named “Essential Phone” and “Essential Home.” With the launch of his two new Essential products, Andy plans to beat Apple and Samsung, which are currently the top most hardware companies.
The Essential Phone has a big display screen, slim bezels, a small chin at the bottom, and a cutout for camera. It has a screen display design similar to that of the earlier released product—Samsung Electronics Co’s Galaxy S8 smartphone. The smartphone has an 8 MP front camera and a 13 MP rear sensor. It also has a USB-C port for charging, a Qualcomm processor and a magnetic connector on the back side to help connect a camera for capturing 360° photos or wireless charging hub. The body of the phone is made up of titanium, which prevents it from getting dents or scratches. One surprising feature is that the phone has a ceramic back that may come in various colors such as Ocean depths, gray, and white. In addition to all this, the phone has a customized user interface along with the Android operating system. This is all about the phone, what about the home security device?
The Essential Home device uses a customized system called “Ambient OS.” It is a voice controlled device that can have control over other appliances as well. This puck-sized gadget is also programmed to provide reminders. The home device has a number of features such as control lights based on the user’s command, a circular screen, and play music as well. It is kind of a smaller digital assistant with a huge scope in the market in the coming years.
These devices will be available to the third party developers as well. The Essential devices will be commercialized soon in the coming months. Currently, the Essential phone costs about $699 and can be preordered for now only in the U.S. market. The pricing and commercialization of the Essential Home are still under wraps.
