Volvo’s brand Polestar affirmed to build its electric sports car on its own

The websites are flooded with the news of autonomous cars, its performance, and its future forecast. But we also have some automobile segments that are performing outstandingly, the only reason we aren’t aware of what’s going on, is due to diverted and low exposure on the upcoming sports cars and luxury cars. There is lots of hustle bustle going in the automobile sector globally.

Polestar, the Volvo’s performance brand declared that it will be building its own range of electric sports cars. We can anticipate the first Polestar model in this year.

As per the sources, Geely, the parent company of Polestar and Volvo is in plans to give a tough fight to VW group by introducing a line of automobile brands.

With Volvo fortifying its dominance and rivaling the brands, Geely, on the other side needs Polestar to be on the sportier role in its group. It wants to do what exactly Mercedes has done with its AMG brand, in terms of manufacturing its own AMG cars as well as customized Mercedes-AMG models.

“I am truly eager to take up the challenge of setting up this electrifying brand, creating a marvelous assortment of custom-made products and direct the craze of the Polestar team. The next episode in Polestar’s history is just commencing,” said Thomas Ingenlath, former Senior Vice President Design at Volvo, who is now, Chief Executive Officer at Polestar.

The new generation Polestar electric car will be built on Volvo’s CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) and SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform. The car, which will be built on the SPA platform, will be revealed first, somewhere in between this year. Volvo’s vehicles such as XC90 SUVs, S90, V90 estate, and Volvo XC60 are all underpinned by SPA platform.

However, Polestar will carry on with the design and performance enhancements for the existing Volvo cars, whereas, Geely is all set to become a global brand of Geely’s motorsports hard work. The company also drives Volvo Polestar vehicles under the brand named as Polestar Cyan Racing.

Looking at the integrated team efforts of the Volvo and Polestar towards the electric sports car project, it seems that there is a tough player coming soon to compete in the race along with its electric sports car.
