Union Telecom Minister for Communications and Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad is open to Pilot Projects allowing experiments by Google, Microsoft and others to address digital challenges of future.
‘National Seminar on Spectrum Management’ Mr. Prasad said, Technology is overtaking the United States. Google needs to investigate the Loon venture furthermore; Microsoft is attempting to investigate white space. As a minister, I am clear that every single new technology must be given appropriate opportunity for experimentation,” Mr. Prasad said at a National Seminar on Spectrum Management.
The Internet enormous needs to experiment its Loon project in premium spectrum bands of 700 Mhz or 800 Mhz. though, the committee under IT secretary has requested that the organization reevaluate its request for these best bands because of availability issues.
The technology, utilized for 4G administrations, can possibly supplant mobile towers as it can directly transmit signal on 4G mobile phones. According to Google, each balloon can provide connectivity to a ground area of about 40 km in diameter using a wireless communication technology known as LTE, or 4G.
For areas where there is no internet connectivity, project loon will help users access the Internet everywhere directly from their phones and other LTE-enabled devices by cooperating with telecom organizations to share cell range. The minister said, will support different elements worried in growing new technology.
All the new technologies have to be given an opportunity for experimentation. Prasad said.
Microsoft has earlier approached the ministry of telecom to experiment on a trial basis use of the unutilized wireless transmission space for conveying remote broadband.
Under the Digital Village program, the government will select a block during a district and one village panchayat will be developed as the digital village where technology will be used for health, wellbeing and education.
